FULLERTON : Council Turns Down Plea for Traffic Signal

Despite pleas from residents for a traffic signal at the busy intersection of Commonwealth and Pritchard avenues, the City Council this week voted to install a caution light instead.

“I don’t think a flashing yellow light is going to do the trick,” said resident Jerri Blansfield, whose 13-year-old daughter, Jamie, was hit by a car while riding her bike through the intersection six months ago.

“We need a red light,” Blansfield told the council. “Cars don’t stop for you. They don’t stop for the crossing guard either.”

The vote was 3 to 2, with council members Don Bankhead and Chris Norby dissenting. The caution light will cost about $35,000 to install. A regular traffic signal, officials said, would have cost about $100,000.
