Lotus Development to Fire Some Top Managers: The Cambridge, Mass.-based publisher of the 1-2-3 spreadsheet plans to fire about 10 to 15 managers as the company reorganizes into four operating units and tries to cut costs by $50 million by year-end. The managers to be fired will come from a pool of about 100 top employees, said spokesman Richard Eckel. Chief Executive Jim Manzi outlined the plan in an internal memo, which came a week after Lotus posted an unexpected $17.5-million first-quarter loss. Lotus employs about 5,500 people worldwide.
