WESTLAKE : Chorale to Perform at Palsy Care Facility

Share

The award-winning Chamber Chorale of Royal High School in Simi Valley will perform Sunday for the Home for Cerebral Palsy in Westlake as part of a pilot program that brings entertainment to the residential care facility.

“I jumped at the chance to have performances here,” said Steve Bird, program director of the home that provides care for cerebral palsy patients.

Last month, the Healing Power of Music series, which is sponsored by the Thousand Oaks Arts Commission, held its first concert at the facility. Steven Custer, a cellist from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, performed for the clients.

Two more concerts are scheduled in May and June before the commission decides whether it wants to sponsor the program on a regular basis.

“We want to reach out to other groups of this type,” said Annabelle Lee Darakjian, an arts commissioner. “I would love to continue it as long as we can.”

Sunday’s concert is open only to clients at the home. The chorale will perform with cast members from the high school’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof.”
