CAMARILLO : Woman Denies Lying for Son in Fraud Case

Share

A 69-year-old Camarillo woman, accused of lying for her son under oath during a preliminary hearing in a fraud case, pleaded not guilty Thursday and was ordered to stand trial in July.

Nora Griffis, mother of the first defendant in Ventura County headed to trial for worker’s compensation fraud, is a bookkeeper at BGL Technology, a company owned by a second son.

Prosecutors allege that Nora Griffis lied in court during a June 30, 1994, preliminary hearing for Alan Griffis, 41, who is accused of illegally collecting $7,000 in benefits while misrepresenting injuries. He was a sales executive for the company.

Nora Griffis testified that her son had not been working at the company during a four-month period in which he is accused of collecting some of the illegal benefits, prosecutors said.

A trial for Nora Griffis, who could face up to seven years, eight months in prison, is set for July 3.
