WAVIN’ WHEAT: Students at Capistrano Valley Christian School in San Juan Capistrano were left wondering what to do about their school play after the tragic bombing in Oklahoma City. Its high school students have spent weeks preparing to put on “Oklahoma!” at the school, May 5-6 and May 11-12. . . . “The students say they feel so morbid,” says the mother of one actor. . . . So, they’ve made a few changes: A dedication to the Oklahoma City victims will be included-- plus a huge baled hay display with farm buckets to collect funds for the victims.

BLUE & BLUE: It’s a busy weekend for the Blue Angels flying team. Not only will it flyin the El Toro Air Show again this afternoon (B2), many members will take part in a 10K run in Laguna Beach this morning. . . . “We’ll have them on the ground and in the air both,” quips Cindy Prewitt, head of fund raising for Laguna Beach schools. The schools’ annual race day fund-raiser has a special purpose this year: All money goes to offset losses in the county’s bankruptcy.

CHIEF MAYOR: Bill Bamattre lost his Dana Point City Council seat in 1992 by a handful of votes. Friday, he came up a winner. The career firefighter was named interim fire chief for the city of Los Angeles. (A27) Bamattre, 43, a battalion chief, was one of three finalists for the post after Fire Chief Donald O. Manning abruptly resigned on Tuesday. . . . Bamattre was a charter council member when Dana Point became a city in 1989, and later served a year as mayor.

PLUSH TIME: Playing third banana on “The Carol Burnett Show” put Lyle Waggoner among the rich and famous. Eight years ago Waggoner was a celebrity fund-raiser for Concordia University in Irvine--Christ College at the time. He’s kept in touch since. At a fund-raising dinner Sunday night at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Irvine, Waggoner will auction off a weekend at his villa on Baja’s coast for the fourth time. Says college spokesman Cliff Silver: “ It’s the most popular item, a very plush place.”
