Hertz has a new program that can save European travelers anywhere from $55 to $400 on drop-off fees when they rent a car in 16 major cities in France, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg. The program, called “Rent It Here/Leave It There,” allows travelers to pick up a car in one country and drop it off in any of six others for a flat fee of about $55 (the fee will vary slightly, because it’s calculated in local currency at the time of drop off, but it’s routinely higher on rentals that originate in France). Before the program was implemented, some standard drop-off rates were: Paris to Munich, $140; Milan to Frankfurt, $464, and Brussels to Frankfurt, $110. The program does not include premium vehicles and other restrictions apply. Rates are good indefinitely; there are no blackout dates. Information and reservations: (800) 654-3001.
