IN THE WORKS?: The site has been unused for nearly three years, but now there is new talk about a deal to sell the abandoned General Motors plant in Van Nuys (B1). . . . Proposals anticipate as many as 1,000 new jobs at a site where 2,600 automobile employees once worked.

QUIZ KIDS: A team of five students from the Van Nuys High School Science and Math Magnet program took top honors at the National Science Bowl competition in Washington, D.C., Monday (B1). . . . They bested 300 students from 37 states, using brain power and even a little psychology.

SALES FORCE: When a car salesman told Michael Moses he would be good at that job, Moses didn’t take it as a compliment. “No way,” he responded. But today he’s one of the top salespeople in the country, selling 308 cars last year at Saturn of the Valley in North Hills. He combines a personal approach with hard work and systematically cultivates customer loyalty. See Valley Business, Page 10.

HOT SHOTS: Next time you think your home videos look sloppy, think about trying to film them from a Lear jet flying 400 m.p.h. while a Harrier with guns blazing swoops down. . . . That’s the kind of work that photographers from Wolfe Air Aviation Ltd. and Clay Lacy Aviation do to make blockbusters. See Valley Business, Page 3.

HIGH MARKS: Serrania Avenue Elementary in Woodland Hills, Vaughn Next Century Learning Center in Pacoima and Bret Harte Elementary in Burbank are among area elementary schools named California Distinguished Schools by the state superintendent of public instruction. . . . In the top 4% of state schools, they are considered models of teaching and parent involvement.
