William (the Refrigerator) Perry, the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive tackle who became a national figure during the Chicago Bears’ Super Bowl season in 1985, has retired from football and is investigating a career switch to pro wrestling, his agent said Wednesday.

“He has announced his retirement and at this point Perry is contemplating exploring opportunities with pro wrestling federations,” said Kathy Fitzwater, assistant to Perry’s agent, Jim Steiner, in a telephone call from her Chicago office.

Perry, 32, was unavailable for comment.

Perry, from Clemson, was drafted by the Bears in the first round in 1985. He scored three rushing touchdowns for Chicago, including one in the 1986 Super Bowl victory over New England.
