WESTMINSTER : Wind-Aided Blaze Leaves 4 Homeless

Share

A fire sparked by faulty electrical wiring and spurred by 25-m.p.h. winds Friday caused $240,000 in damage and left four people without a home, fire officials said.

About 35 firefighters from five cities arrived at 2 p.m. in the 13700 block of Jefferson Street to find the home “filled with heavy smoke and a fire that had blown out all the windows,” Fire Battalion Chief Craig Campbell said. The blaze gutted the home and spread to a camper and a few trees in the back yard, Campbell said.

“The neighbors to the north and south were spraying their roofs with garden hoses,” he said. “Thank goodness the roofs were not made of wooden shingles, or I’m almost positive they would have caught fire.”

The fire took about 30 minutes to control, Campbell said.
