Countywide : Local Schools Honored as Among State’s Best

Eight Orange County elementary schools are among 211 from throughout the state to be named California Distinguished Schools. Eight local middle and high schools have also been nominated along with 36 others from California to the U.S. Department of Education for its Blue Ribbon School program.

The Distinguished Schools will be honored at a May 19 ceremony in Anaheim and presented with a plaque and flag.

“Each of the 1995 distinguished schools is an outstanding example of successful teaching and learning, and exceptionally strong parent and community involvement,” said Delaine Eastin, state superintendent of public instruction.

The Distinguished Schools are: Theodore Roosevelt in Anaheim; George L. White Elementary and Philip J. Reilly School in Capistrano Unified; Acacia Elementary and Orangethorpe Elementary in Fullerton; Richard Henry Lee Elementary and Rossmoor Elementary in Los Alamitos Unified; and Lake Forest Elementary in Saddleback Valley Unified.

The nominees for Blue Ribbon Schools are: Capistrano Valley High in Capistrano Unified; La Habra High and Sunny Hills High in Fullerton Joint Union; Venado Middle School in Irvine Unified; Laguna Beach High in Laguna Beach Unified; Los Alisos Intermediate and Mission Viejo High in Saddleback Valley Unified; and Foothill High in Tustin Unified.
