Three-D Systems Reports 60% Rise in Earnings

Three-D Systems Corp., a Valencia-based company that makes computer-based systems that produce product models, reported a 60% surge in earnings on record first-quarter sales.

The company posted a profit of $1.33 million in the quarter that ended March 31, compared to earnings of $828,561 a year earlier. Sales climbed to $13.6 million, up 44% from $9.47 million in the same three-month period of 1994.

Gordon Almquist, chief financial officer at Three-D Systems, said the company’s gross profit margins widened to 52% in the first quarter, compared to 49% a year earlier. The company’s systems are used to develop product prototypes from computer-based designs, and are used in industries including aerospace, automotive and health care.
