Hitler Aide

Share

* Reading your April 29 article about Bernd Freytag von Loringhoven, a military aide to Adolf Hitler, who disclaims to have been a believer in the Nazi menace, is an insult to all Jews. Von Loringhoven expects us to believe that he was an innocent bystander during the final days of Hitler as well as during the whole Nazi period. This man, who lives in an elegant neighborhood in Munich, had obviously never faced the consequences of his so-called uninvolvement during the whole Hitler period, while the slaughter of millions of people took place.

Von Loringhoven should now come before a war criminal symposium like the Nuremberg trials instead of having a long article in our newspaper as if he was a war hero.

* Von Loringhoven states that the remaining portions of Hitler’s bunker should be sealed off “so that it’s gone and doesn’t revive any memories.” But the point of preserving the bunker is precisely to keep those memories alive, the need for which is shown by Von Loringhoven’s absurd rationalization of his own involvement: “I was forced to serve as best I could because I was bound by my oath.” The bunker should be preserved to remind us what horrors can result from such twisted reasoning.
