Congress Gift Ban
In your May 9 editorial, “They Wine and Dine, You Wind Up Fleeced,” you failed to include me in your list of California members who have taken a gift ban pledge. I hope you will correct this oversight. I have also voluntarily pledged to refuse gifts from lobbyists consistent with the provisions in House Resolution 40, which would bar members and staff from accepting gifts from lobbyists.
I am also a co-sponsor of House Resolution 26, a bill that would require unspent congressional office funds to be returned directly to the Treasury for deficit reduction. During the last Congress I returned over $400,000 of my official budget.
I have done these things because I believe members of Congress should not enrich themselves in public service.
