GM Recalls Blazers and Jimmys: The auto maker said it is recalling 111,000 1995 Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Jimmy sport utility vehicles to fix a problem that could lead to fuel-tank leakage. The four-door vehicles are being recalled in response to a federal government crash test in November, 1994, that caused one vehicle’s tank to leak, GM spokesman Ed Lechtzin said. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration requires that fuel tanks not leak in a frontal crash at 30 m.p.h., and the tank leaked in a crash at 35 m.p.h., a result GM is not comfortable with, he said. Lechtzin said GM has received no reports of leakage from owners. GM changed the design of vehicles produced starting in January and is installing an aluminum and rubber cover for tanks on vehicles produced before then.
