GM Recommends Clearer Lease Contracts: The Detroit-based auto maker has asked its 8,535 U.S. dealers to adopt specific guidelines that clearly spell out details of vehicle lease contracts to consumers. The revision is part of a new range of dealer standards adopted by the nation’s largest car maker earlier this year. A General Motors Corp. spokesman said the move is not in response to any lawsuit or out-of-court settlement. The forms will spell out the capitalized cost reduction, or lease down payment, as well as any additional charges and annual mileage limits. The new disclosure guidelines go into effect June 1. Dealers are independent businesses and are under no obligation to adopt them, GM said.
