Eltron Sees Profits Rise to $1.5 Million in 1st Quarter

Eltron International Inc., a Chatsworth-based maker of bar-code label printers and related software, reported a surge in profit and revenue for the first quarter that ended March 31.

The company posted a $1.5-million profit for the first quarter, nearly five times the $307,800 reported in the same three-month period a year earlier. Sales totaled $8.9 million for the quarter, more than tripling the $2.7 million reported a year earlier.

Sales for the quarter were propelled by onetime orders from the British Parcel Force and an undisclosed state agency in the United States, said Donald K. Skinner, president and chief executive officer of Eltron. The two non-recurring orders contributed $1.5 million in sales to first-quarter results, Skinner said.
