About 30 fifth-graders from Clinton-Mendenhall Elementary School in Garden Grove recently took up jobs as housekeepers, chefs, waiters and managers at the Hyatt Regency Alicante near Disneyland.

They were among 1,500 fifth-graders nationwide who participated in a May 2 career day sponsored by Hyatt Hotels Corp.

Company executives said they hope some of the students will consider careers in the hotel chain or elsewhere in the tourism industry.

After being issued uniforms, the students were given a tour of the hotel, and then each teamed with an employee to follow for a day’s work--which included a lunch in the employee cafeteria and a hotel-wide staff meeting.
