BREA : Trustees Seek Comments on Plan for New School Bus Fees
Trustees of the Brea Olinda Unified School District have postponed a decision on whether to impose new bus fees. Instead, they offered parents two more weeks to comment on the matter.
The school board is considering charges of as much as $380 per family for students who ride the bus to and from school.
No parents voiced concerns on the proposed fees during Monday night’s school board meeting, prompting trustees to wait until their June 6 meeting before voting. But board members indicated they are leaning toward adopting the fees, which would help recover the cost of student transportation and raise funds for school supplies.
Trustees said the cost would average about $1 a day. In addition, students who qualify for free and reduced-cost lunches also would qualify for free or reduced-fare bus transportation.
