LONG BEACH : Police Investigating College’s Auto Program

Share

Long Beach police detectives are investigating the possible illegal use of property, including automobiles, in Long Beach City College’s automotive program, said school and police officials.

College administrators conducted an internal investigation, then asked the Long Beach Police Department to step in, police spokesman Joseph Levy said. Detectives from the auto theft detail are handling the probe, he said.

Officials said they could not provide more details while the investigation is pending.

The college’s automotive program, part of the technical trade courses offered at the Pacific Coast Campus, offers training in auto mechanics. The program is supervised by the School of Business and Technology.

The school’s dean, Leon Wood, was placed on administrative leave April 26, said John Didion, dean of human resources. College trustees last week approved Wood’s retirement, which will take effect June 30.

Barbara Adams, city college president, would not say whether Wood is being investigated. Wood could not be reached for comment.
