WALK WITH PURPOSE: The annual AIDS Walk Orange County at UC Irvine has become the biggest local fund-raiser by foot. Organizers have announced the date for this year’s ninth annual walk: Sunday, June 4. A record turnout is almost assured, says Executive Director Joann Ruden, because a record number of sponsors have signed to participate. . . . Last year it produced $380,000 for local AIDS-related causes. The sign-up number: (714) 955-1400.

WHERE IS HOME? Since Chapman University has been in Orange 41 years, it should want its new law school there too, right? Negotiations are still on for a building near Chapman’s campus for use as the permanent law school. But Chapman has two other offers it’s considering--from Garden Grove and Anaheim, where the law school opens at temporary facilities this fall. . . . Says Chapman Vice President Gary Brahm: “I think they are all trying very hard. There are advantages to each.”

NOT FOR ALL: Collaboration was Cecilia Fannon’s topic at a Women Authors Festival by the local Literary Guild on Saturday in Irvine. The Newport Beach playwright (“Green Icebergs”) says the theater is not for all writers. . . . “If you have to be in control, maybe you shouldn’t be a playwright,” she says. “Be prepared to revise--and revise. A play is a collaboration and many people want to make their input.” . . . Fannon is at work now on a new play, commissioned by South Coast Repertory theater in Costa Mesa.

THEY’RE NOT ALONE: Unwed teen moms or unwed pregnant teens have it tough. But today at the Newport Beach Marriot Hotel and Tennis Club, 60 girls in that situation will get a little pampering. It’s a Mothers & Daughters Tea, hosted by model-actress Kathy Ireland and the nonprofit Athletes & Entertainers for Kids. . . . Each teen will be paired with a professional woman. Says spokeswoman Shari Dunn: ‘They’ll have workshops on prenatal care or baby care. We also hope to build their self-esteem.”
