The Los Angeles Police Department is inviting the public to the grand opening ceremony on June 3 for its remodeled Foothill Area Community Police Station in Pacoima.

A full day of events is planned at the station, beginning with an open house at 9:30 a.m., followed by a ribbon-cutting at 1 p.m. hosted by Chief Willie L. Williams.

Foothill Division police officers waited more than two years for the $5-million addition and renovation to be completed.

The money for the project, provided by a 1989 bond measure, helped build a 240-car parking garage and added about 10,500 square feet of space to the Foothill Division’s Pacoima headquarters.

The space includes a new locker room for the division’s women officers and new offices for detectives.

The expansion also includes a new conference room, a larger report-writing and record-keeping room and four new interview rooms for detectives.

On June 3, the public will be able to see all the new features at the station.

In addition, demonstrations will be conducted by the department’s Air Support Division, SWAT and Search and Rescue teams, and information will be available from the Valley Traffic Division and the Police Officer Recruitment Section.

Entertainment will be provided by two local high school bands and a disc jockey. Child-safety fingerprinting will be offered, and youth boxing and karate exhibitions also are scheduled.

The station is at 12760 Osborne St.
