Dow Corning Corp. Seeks Stay Against Litigation: The Midland, Mich., company made the request in federal court in an effort to protect its parent companies, Dow Chemical Co. and Corning Inc., against breast implant lawsuits as it goes through bankruptcy reorganization, a company spokesman said. Dow Corning filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, saying it cannot contribute $2 billion to a $4.25-billion global settlement and also deal with thousands of individual lawsuits involving its silicone breast implants. The move allows Dow Corning to consolidate the claims against it and to stop new claims. The company denied the action is an effort to avoid paying claims.
