Growth in African Economies Predicted: The continent will become richer this year as economies grow faster than populations do, boosting per-capita income for the first time since the beginning of the decade, the African Development Bank said in a report published ahead of the bank’s annual meeting in Abuja, Nigeria. But the bank called for a review of International Monetary Fund structural adjustment programs that are followed by most of its African members, saying such programs should allow more government intervention. The report forecasts 1995 growth of 3.6% throughout its 52 member states, up from an estimated 1.9% in 1994.
