Nissan, Mazda Report Heavy Losses: The declines seen by Nissan Motor Co. and Mazda Motor Corp. in the past fiscal year further weaken their standing within Japan’s intensely competitive automobile industry. Nissan said it suffered a $2-billion loss on a consolidated basis, including subsidiaries, for the fiscal year ended March 31. Mazda reported a parent-company-only loss of $429 million. The sharp losses mean Nissan and Mazda are losing ground against competitors--especially cash-rich Toyota Motor Corp., which earlier this week said its net income was up 40% over the past fiscal year.
