SOUNDTRACK HOPPING: So you heard all about that song that Michael Stipe and Tori Amos collaborated on for the soundtrack of the Johnny Depp movie “Don Juan DeMarco,” but when you went to see the film, you got Bryan Adams’ lame “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” instead.

Wonder what happened to the Stipe/Amos song? Go back to the movies and you’ll get another shot at it.

“It Might Hurt a Little Bit” is now going to be featured in “Empire,” the upcoming film starring Liv Tyler (daughter of Aerosmith’s Steve) as one of a group of youths working at a small-town record store. The movie’s soundtrack also features “ ‘Til I Hear From You,” the Gin Blossoms’ first new song in nearly three years, and other new offerings from Evan Dando, the Cranberries, Cracker and Toad the Wet Sprocket. The album is due July 25, with the film’s premiere set for Aug. 18.

So why did Stipe and Amos get bumped? It was nothing against the song, says Laura Morgan, spokeswoman for A&M; Records, which has both movies’ albums. It’s just that Michael Kamen, who supervised the “DeMarco” music and scored the film, felt that the Adams track was a better fit for the romantic fantasy’s mood.
