Unemployment Reports to Be Released: Will the economic slowdown emerging nationally drag down the job market in Los Angeles County and the rest of the state? New indicators will be unveiled Friday when government officials announce jobless rates and other employment data for the county, state and nation. California’s unemployment rate edged up to 7.9% in April from 7.6% in March, but some analysts were heartened to see that the state still added a modest number of new jobs. Los Angeles County’s jobless rate dropped dramatically, to 6.8% in April from 8% in March, but analysts were quick to dismiss that as a statistical glitch. The county’s jobless rate has been in a downward trend since August, when it was 10.3%.
