Ruling Favors Former Pipeline Worker: The Labor Department said Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. unfairly dismissed a safety inspector for pointing out safety and environmental problems along the 800-mile trans-Alaska oil pipeline. James Schooley was again unfairly punished when he lost his job earlier this year with pipeline contractor Arctic Slope Inspection Service, the agency said. In a May 18 letter to Alyeska President David Pritchard, the department ordered Schooley reinstated with back pay. Alyeska attorney Robert Jordan said the company has appealed the finding.
