Plans Delayed for Market at College
Plans for an open-air market at Valley College, originally scheduled to begin this weekend, have been postponed until fall to allow time for organizers to meet with neighbors.
The market would include sales of antiques, collectibles, fruits and vegetables, as well a booths for campus clubs and area service organizations. Proceeds are to go to the Los Angeles Valley College Foundation, which offers student scholarships.
“It is meant to be a community fair, very family-oriented,” said Dennis Reed, dean of community relations for the college. “We want to work with some neighbors in the community to resolve their concerns.”
Some residents worry the market will bring unwanted traffic into their Van Nuys neighborhood and increase the threat of crime.
A group of residents are scheduled to meet at 7 tonight in the auditorium at Erwin Street Elementary School, 13400 Erwin St., to discuss the proposed market.
