Forging ahead with plans to quickly select a new city manager, the Simi Valley City Council met in closed session Tuesday evening to narrow the field of nine candidates for the post.

No information was released after the session. State law allows the selection process to remain confidential.

At least two of the finalists are said to be city employees--Assistant City Manager Mike Sedell and Deputy City Manager Don Penman. A third finalist is said to be Bob Hunt, a former assistant city manager who left to take the city manager’s job at La Quinta in Riverside County.

Diane Jones, director of the city’s environmental services department, is said to be the lone female candidate. Other applicants reportedly come from the cities of Camarillo and Santa Monica.

Interviews with the finalists are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Friday at City Hall. After the interviews, the council plans to meet in closed session to make a final decision.

The new manager will replace Lin Koester, who is leaving the city to become chief administrative officer for Ventura County.
