Furon Co.: The Laguna Niguel maker of industrial components reported a 42% increase in net income for the first fiscal quarter, to $3.4 million, or 37 cents a share, from $2.4 million, or 27 cents a share, for the like period last year. Sales for the quarter ended April 29 reached a record $88.4 million, up 18% from the $75 million posted for the corresponding period last year. J. Michael Hagan, chairman and chief executive, said the results benefited from continued strength in the industrial sector, both domestically and in Europe. The company also acquired Custom Coating & Laminating at the beginning of the quarter.
