Grants: Loyola Marymount Gets Science Funding

Loyola Marymount University has received two National Science Foundation grants to develop an advanced mechanical engineering laboratory and a computer laboratory for biology. The grants, which will be matched by the university, amount to about $40,000 each.

The mechanical engineering grant will help fund an interdisciplinary lab in which undergraduate engineering and art students can make wax and polymer prototypes. The biology computer laboratory will feature digitized photographs, video and audio.

“The key is that we will be developing multimedia materials for students that will complement traditional laboratory and field investigations,” said biology professor Dr. Howard Towner. “They will be able to work on scientific applications and study materials at their own pace.”
