An expert on the culture and peace process of the Middle East will speak Wednesday at a meeting of the Ventura County chapter of the World Affairs Council.

Yoram Ben-Ze’ev, consul general of Israel in Los Angeles, will discuss how radical Palestinian groups and militant Israelis threaten peace in the region. He will also address Israel’s negotiations with neighboring countries, including Syria.

World Affairs Council spokeswoman Laura Seasongood said the nonprofit group tries to educate the public by providing access to those involved in foreign affairs.

“It’s rare that people have the opportunity to hear directly from or ask questions of someone involved directly in the peace talks that have taken place in the region,” Seasongood said.

Ze’ev was director general for the peace process in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 1993, when he became consul general.

The meeting begins at 6:15 p.m. at the Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo, and costs $18 for members and $28 at the door. Cocktails and a light buffet will be provided. For information, call 531-9227.
