ITHACA : A Historic U.S. Visit

Lee Teng-hui, who will arrive in Los Angeles Wednesday on the way to Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., will be more than just another alumnus attending his college reunion.
Lee is president of Taiwan, and this will be the first time that any Taiwan president has visited the United States. The United States broke off diplomatic relations with Taiwan when it recognized the People’s Republic of China in 1979.
Lee’s four-day stay in the United States will be highlighted by a speech that he will deliver in Ithaca on Friday
