SIMI VALLEY : Council OKs Slight Hike in Water Rates
With a few grumbles and some audible sighs, the Simi Valley City Council approved a slight hike in water rates for the city’s water district.
About half the city’s residents rely on water from Water District No. 8, which is run by the city. The other half receives service from a private water company.
The city does not have its own water supply, instead buying water from a regional agency. The rate increase was requested to offset a boost in that agency’s fees.
“Our hands are sort of tied,” Mayor Greg Stratton said Monday night, before voting for the increase. “They charge us more, so we have to charge more.”
The rate for the typical residential household will increase about 2.7%, from $64.92 to $66.70 every two months.
