SAS Pilot Strike Halts Flights: Scandinavian Airlines System canceled all domestic and international flights for 24 hours from midnight Stockholm time Thursday after last-ditch pay talks with pilots broke down, Swedish radio and television said. Swedish news agency TT earlier quoted a SAS spokesman as saying that a threatened management lockout of all company pilots would go ahead, partly to avoid confusion about who was striking and who was not. Today’s stoppage will affect all SAS European, intercontinental and Scandinavian flights--about 800 flights and 40,000 passengers. The airline’s 1,600 pilots are holding out for a 6.7% annual pay raise, but management has offered only 1%, a Danish Pilots Union spokesman said.
