After watching the Bullfrogs dismantle the Oklahoma Coyotes, 12-5, in a Roller Hockey International game Saturday at The Pond, Anaheim Coach Grant Sonier realized he had a problem.

But it’s a nice problem.

First-year player Todd Wetzel had three goals and an assist and Darren Banks, Joe Cook and Victor Gervais each added two goals to lead the Bullfrogs in front of an announced crowd of 9,371.

Everyone contributed for the Bullfrogs, who broke the game open in the first quarter by scoring six goals in a 9-minute 9-second span to take a 6-2 lead.

“The biggest problem I have is deciding who to play,” Sonier said. “If it’s a tough job figuring out which players start, then we did a good job putting the team together.

“Now, I just have to keep all of the players happy.”

That won’t be a problem if the Bullfrogs continue to roll past opponents, displaying their talent depth. Ten of the 12 skaters scored for the Bullfrogs.

First-year forward Mark Ouimet had four assists and Steve Cadieux, making his first start, had a goal and two assists. Frederick Jax had a goal and two assists and Darren Perkins had three assists.

Defensively, goalie Chris Gordon started in place of Rob Laurie, who last season was selected to the Western Conference all-star team, and played well. Gordon, who was an all-star goalie in the East Coast League this season, looked sharp and had 29 saves.

“Chris made some big saves early on when the game wasn’t in hand,” Sonier said.

After the Bullfrogs took an 8-4 halftime lead, Gordon faced only two shots in the third quarter and 10 in the second half.

Oklahoma goalies Allan Perry and Mike Williams weren’t as fortunate.

The Bullfrogs outshot the Coyotes, 43-34, and Anaheim scored goals on its first five shots. Perry didn’t make his first save until he stopped Gervais’ slap shot with 2:32 remaining in the first quarter.

The Bullfrogs chased Perry after Banks scored his second goal midway through the third quarter to give Anaheim a 10-4 lead.

About the only negative in Saturday’s victory was the Bullfrogs’ tendency to be too aggressive. Anaheim was whistled for 10 minor penalties and a 10-minute misconduct penalty to Daniel Shank, who had two assists.

But Anaheim gave up only two power-play goals.

“We were taking some penalties when it was 8-4, but we had our opponent down and we kept them down,” Sonier said. “So I can accept those things after a game like this.”

Bullfrog Notes

The Bullfrogs and Anaheim Mayor Tom Daly honored members of the Orange County Fire and Rescue Squad who participated in the rescue project for the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing. The Bullfrogs held a silent auction for various sports memorabilia and will donate the proceeds to the Oklahoma City Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund. . . . The Bullfrogs’ next game is Friday at The Pond against Phoenix.
