Faltering Talks Ground SAS Flights: Scandinavian Airlines System flights were strikebound for the fourth time in 10 days, and there is the prospect of another stoppage Wednesday if pilots and management fail to break a pay deadlock. An SAS spokeswoman said about 800 flights were canceled and that 55,000 passengers were likely to be affected by the strike and reciprocal management lockout, which ran from midnight Sunday to midnight Monday. She said near-normal service was to resume today. SAS pilots unions have warned that they will strike again if their demands for a 6% annual pay rise are not met. The company said it would not pay more than the 3.5% already agreed upon, but a Swedish news agency said management had increased its offer.
