McCann Boosts Forecast for Ad Spending: Domestic advertising spending is expected to rise by about 7.9% this year and 8% in 1996, a veteran industry forecaster said. The outlook for this year is stronger than it was only six months ago, said Robert Coen, who tracks ad spending trends for the ad agency McCann-Erickson Worldwide and is widely followed in the industry. In December, Coen had predicted spending would rise 6.8% for 1995. The chief reason for his improved forecast is unexpectedly strong national ad demand, Coen said. His forecast for 1996 is his first for that year.
