American Airlines Inc. Tuesday pledged a donation, probably close to $10,000, to help solve the murder of Jane Carver, a 46-year-old flight attendant who was gunned down during a morning jog, authorities said.

Details are still in the works, but American planned to donate “around $10,000” toward the Carver Family Reward Fund, said Mark Matta, spokesman for Wells Fargo Bank, which set up the account.

Reward offer--A story Wednesday about a reward offered in the slaying of Jane Carver, of Fountain Valley, incorrectly identified the source of the pledge. The offer was made by United Airlines, where Carver had worked as a flight attendant. Donations can be made to the Carver Family Reward Fund, Wells Fargo Bank, 10060 Slater Ave., Fountain Valley, CA 92708.

The airline joined scores of individuals making donations toward the fund, which family members set up earlier this week to help detectives find the killer of Carver, a United Airlines employee and mother of two sons. Bank officials said Tuesday that they did not have a complete tally, but said the amount was “substantial.”

“We don’t have the total yet because we’ve got a lot of pledges over the phone and checks on the way,” Matta said. “All I can say is we’ve received many, many responses.”

As support poured in from community residents and area businesses, funeral services were being arranged for Carver, who joined United in 1969 and had been working on domestic routes, according to company officials.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 17270 Ward St., in Fountain Valley. A rosary for Carver will be said at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the same church.

Carver, an avid jogger, was shot to death, apparently by a lone gunman early Saturday near her Fountain Valley home. Police are baffled over the slaying, which did not appear to have been a robbery. Detectives said they have been unable to find a motive.

The slaying happened about 8 a.m., and there were several witnesses who gave police a description of a man seen leaving the scene of the crime, police said.

It was the first homicide this year in Fountain Valley.

“We still don’t have a suspect,” Police Lt. Bob Mosley said. “I’ve got detectives out there working from all angles.”

Residents continued to place roses, some cut from their yards, and other flowers at the site of the killing Tuesday. And flower delivery vans frequented the Carver home to deliver bouquets.

At the Los Angeles union headquarters for flight attendants, a message on the answering machine announced that a meeting Friday will be canceled so that employees can attend Carver’s funeral.
