A Pakistani national convicted in a $450,000 airline ticket scheme was sought as a fugitive Wednesday after he failed to show up for the reading of the verdict in federal court.
U.S. District Judge A. Wallace Tashima issued a bench warrant for Haroon Amin’s arrest. Amin, who faces up to 15 years in prison and $750,000 in fines for three wire fraud convictions, could face more charges for fleeing.
Amin, the 33-year-old former owner of an Upland travel agency, was convicted of filling out blank tickets and selling them without paying the airlines. Prosecutors said Amin defrauded 14 airlines.
