Restaurateur Giovanni Tromba will host a five-course dinner Monday featuring the wines of the Joseph Phelps Vineyard of the Napa Valley. The dinner will be held at Giovanni’s Restaurant in Camarillo.

The evening will begin with an aperitif of the Phelps Vineyard Grenache Rose. Dinner includes a spinach salad with smoked salmon, accompanied by a Sauvignon Blanc, a serving of fusilli with a four-cheese cream sauce, complemented by a Chardonnay, then a breast of chicken with puree of roasted peppers and Phelps’ Le Mistral Red.

For the main course, a petite filet mignon with mushrooms and shallots, sauteed in Cabernet will be served, along with a Cabernet Sauvignon. The dinner will conclude with dessert and coffee.

Also on Monday, Chef Gerard Thompson of Montecito’s Stonehouse Restaurant will share his kitchen with Chef Serge Falesitch of Los Angeles’ Eclipse Restaurant and prepare a four-course dinner. The gourmet event will wrap up Thompson’s Next Generation Chef Series.

The first course will feature a blue crab and lobster cake with summer corn and lobster ailoi . Next is a baby artichoke and asparagus salad with white truffle vinaigrette. For the main course, there will be a choice of either northern halibut baked in parchment or roast rack of lamb with Tuscan beans. Dessert will be a summer cherry sampler.

There will be two seatings, at 7 and 7:30 p.m. Call 969-4100 for reservations. Cost is $45. The Stonehouse Restaurant is on San Ysidro Ranch, at 900 San Ysidro Lane.

In case you hadn’t noticed, Pineapples, the new restaurant near the Ventura Holiday Inn, did not open last Friday as its owners had hoped. The restaurant is now expected to begin operation Friday or Saturday.

Members of the local chapter of The Single Gourmet--the club for unattached fine-food connoisseurs--are scheduled to dine at Tuscany Il Ristorante in Westlake Village on June 22. Deadline for reservations is June 15.
