California Amplifier Reports Higher Profits

California Amplifier Inc., a Camarillo-based manufacturer of amplifiers, antennas and other products used to receive microwave television signals, reported a sharp rise in net income for the company’s first fiscal quarter that ended June 3.

The company reported a profit of $852,000 in the first quarter, more than double the $406,000 profit the company posted in the same three-month period a year earlier. Sales climbed to $12.7 million, up 13% from $11.2 million a year earlier.

Ira Coron, chief executive of California Amplifier, attributed the improved results to surging sales of so-called wireless cable products. Such products accounted for 59% of total sales during the quarter, he said, partly due to growth in the number of international orders.

“Satellite television product sales rebounded from the fourth quarter, but still were well below last year levels,” Coron said.
