GENEVA : Talks on Auto Impasse

Share

With little more than a week to go to the June 28 deadline, U.S. and Japanese senior officials will meet in Geneva on Thursday and Friday in a last-ditch effort to avoid the imposition of 100% tariffs by the United States on luxury auto imports from Japan.

Washington’s goal is to gain Japanese agreement to increase purchases of U.S.-made auto parts, in what American manufacturers see as opening a potentially lucrative market, and to ease the path for U.S. car makers trying to sell vehicles in Japan.
