The city of Pomona will soon have a new home--in San Diego.

City officials have agreed to buy City Administrator Severo Esquivel’s four-bedroom residence in San Diego for $314,750. Esquivel, who bought the home in 1988 for $245,000 when he was San Diego’s deputy city manager, has been unable to sell the property since moving to Pomona 18 months ago.

City officials plan to resell the house. Critics point out that they’d better not hold out for a profit: the purchase price was $20,000 more than the property’s assessed value. . . .
