Torrential rains on Tuesday compounded the misery of hundreds of thousands of people stranded by a flood that has already left at least 51 dead.

The deluge has slowed efforts to rescue and feed about 3 million people trapped in, or on top of, their flooded homes in much of northern Bangladesh.

In the neighboring Indian state of Assam, floods killed 13 people and trapped more than 200,000 others in their homes, news reports said.
