CAMARILLO : Planners Approve 2 Housing Projects

Share

Ordering only slight modifications to its proposal, the Camarillo Planning Commission has given unanimous approval to Pardee Construction Co.’s request to build 361 homes in the central and eastern areas of the city.

The commission voted Tuesday night to approve the two large housing projects.

The first project would include 265-single-family residences on an 88-acre site north of Las Posas Road and Lantana Street. It will feature one- and two-story houses ranging from 1,759 to 3,082 square feet in size and have a seven-acre park.

Bob Burrow, a senior planner with the city, said the commission ordered Pardee officials to place more single-story houses on the edges of the community to lessen its perceived density from outside the project area.

Some residents living near the site have expressed concerns about converting the land, now used for strawberry farming, from agricultural to residential. Officials, however, said the property was zoned for such development when it was annexed by the city.

The second proposal calls for the construction of 96 single-family residences on a 20.8-acre parcel near Mission Oaks Boulevard and Adolfo Road in the city’s Mission Oaks area.

The units, from 1,609 to 2,729 square feet, will be both one and two stories.

Burrow said construction on both projects is expected to start in early 1996.
