Errors Cited in Copter Downing
The U.S. Army helicopter that was shot down over North Korea in December strayed across the demilitarized zone as a result of human error--exacerbated by a spate of operational and training deficiencies--according to an Army report issued Thursday.
The report cited a series of factors that contributed to the overflight and listed 16 steps the service has taken to correct shortcomings. But Army investigators said they saw no reason to punish anyone.
The downing resulted in the death of one U.S. officer. Chief Warrant Officer Bobby W. Hall II was captured and held prisoner for two weeks before being returned.
