FILM : Relying on Old Favorites : Two movie chains will lure kids with low-priced tickets for a series of reruns.

Can reruns of G- and PG-rated movies garner as much attention from adolescents this summer as Sega Genesis, the neigh borhood swimming pool and the gravitational pull of “Pocahontas”? Just maybe.

Two movie chains plan on pulling kids into the theater with such films as “Thumbelina” and “Monkey Trouble”--last year’s movie fare--with ticket prices as low as 75 cents.

“Every year we see an increase of kids and families coming to the summer matinees, as much as 20% to 50% per theater,” said Richard Lambakis, marketing manager for the West Division of AMC Theaters, which, along with General Cinema Theaters, is staging summer movie camps featuring second-run films.

“Thumbelina” is kicking off the AMC Burbank 14 Theaters’ summer program Monday. The theater will run a G- and a PG-rated movie simultaneously at 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday through Sept. 1. The two movies change each week, offering a choice of 20 films during the 10-week period, including such titles as “Little Big League,” “The Sandlot,” “My Girl 2” and “3 Ninjas Kick Back.” A $7.50 ticket book comes with 10 admission tickets plus kids’ popcorn and drink coupons. A free chaperon pass, good for the entire series, is provided with every 10 books purchased, popular with day-care groups, which make up the majority of the audiences each summer, Lambakis said.

Fallbrook General Cinema, at the Fallbrook Mall, will run one G- or PG-rated movie per week at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays during the eight-week run of its “Summer Movie Camp 1995” that begins July 11. Individual admission is $1.50, or $8 for a series pass good for all eight movies--”The Flintstones,” “Thumbelina,” “Richie Rich,” “The Little Rascals,” “Andre,” “Lassie,” “The Pebble and the Penguin” and “The Pagemaster.”

For something a little more retro, turn to the Autry Museum of Western Heritage for the likes of Buddy Ebsen, Don Knotts and Slim Pickens in Disney classics. In conjunction with the “Walt Disney’s Wild West” exhibit featuring artifacts from Western-themed Disney films, the museum will screen “Old Yeller,” “Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier” ( with an appearance by Buddy Ebsen) and “The Apple Dumpling Gang” from July through early September.

In “Toon and Tunes,” the museum will pair the 1948 Disney cartoon “Pecos Bill” with a concert performance by the contemporary Western harmony trio, Sons of the San Joaquin, at 2 p.m. Aug. 12.

“We’re hoping that families will get involved. We all, through our kids and grandkids, are trying to relive those memorable times,” said Mary Ann Ruelas, the Autry’s assistant director of programs.
