BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Allanson Takes Batting Practice

Share

Catcher Andy Allanson, on the disabled list with a gash on his left hand since June 12, took batting practice Sunday for the first time since the injury.

He has been throwing batting practice and playing catch in recent days, but had been held out of hitting drills.

“He was a little tentative, you could see it,” Manager Marcel Lachemann said.

Allanson should be ready to be activated this week, but how the Angels will make room for him isn’t clear.

They already have four catchers, although Lachemann has inserted Greg Myers into the designated hitter’s spot while Chili Davis is on the disabled list because of a strained left hamstring.

Jorge Fabregas is batting .297 and has probably earned a stay with the Angels. Chris Turner and Mark Dalesandro are the top candidates to return to triple-A Vancouver.

Second baseman Damion Easley ended his 0-for-32 streak with a single to center field in the fifth inning.
