Grain Processors Targeted in Antitrust Probe: Federal authorities are looking at some of the nation’s largest grain processors in an antitrust investigation of the food and feed additives industries. Archer Daniels Midland Co. and A.E. Staley Manufacturing Co. have been served with subpoenas to produce documents or other information concerning the pricing and operation of their high-fructose corn syrup businesses, the companies said. Cargill Inc., another large grain processor, said it has been told it will soon be part of the Justice Department probe, spokesman Allen Holbert said, adding that the company plans to cooperate. In Washington, Justice Department spokeswoman Gina Talamona confirmed that the antitrust division is investigating possible anti-competitive practices in the food and feed additive industries.
